History
Named for the Eggleston brothers who were among the earliest settlers here: John and Joseph arrived in 1855 and were joined a short time later by Harlan and Ira. The village was home to a railroad station beginning in 1871 that served Prairie Island but was never more than a handful of businesses with a post office. Both the railroad and the post office are long gone and the town today is mostly a collection of mobile homes. And yet I write about it.
