Song of the Day: Mississippi (Roll On)

Mel McDaniel

Mel McDaniel

Mel McDaniel may not be a household name, but he had a decent run with a few Top Ten hits on the country charts in the late 1970s and early 1980s. This song, Mississippi (Roll On), was released on his 1985 album called Let It Roll. With no trips to the tropics in my future, the summer imagery in this song gave me a few moments to escape the recent snow and cold weather, at least in my mind, even as the narrator dreams of escaping his or her small river town.
