Picture of the Day: Soulard in Bloom

Soulard is the oldest residential neighborhood in St. Louis. Many of the handsome red-brick buildings pre-date the Civil War. In early spring, the neighborhood's many Bradford pear trees are flush with white blooms, making for a nice contrast with the buildings. See more Photos of the Day here. Picture(s) of the Day: Confluence Point

Here are two pictures from Confluence Point, where the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers become one (just north of St. Louis). The Missouri River is to the left, ending its 2300-mile journey. The Mississippi River is on the right, some 1,150 miles from its headwaters in northern Minnesota. The top photo was taken just last week;

Picture of the Day: Backwaters Shrouded in Fog

I love the way fog transforms the river and its backwaters into a set for a horror flick. Look out for the zombie fishermen! This shot was taken in October 2010 in the Reno Bottoms south of Brownsville, Minnesota. See more Photos of the Day here. Backwaters of Reno Bottoms (MN)

Picture of the Day: Lake Pepin in Winter

Winter is about over, such as it was this year, so I'll probably switch away from the snow and ice pictures--after just one more. Lake Pepin is a natural lake in the main channel of the Mississippi River that extends about 22 miles from Red Wing, Minnesota to Wabasha, Minnesota. It's one of the spots
