There are a whole bunch of songs called Mississippi River Blues (that darn river sure does depress some people!) but the one I’m playing for you today is the classic that was first recorded by Big Bill Broonzy. The song is based on an older tune that you can also hear in Crow Jane Blues and Slidin’ Delta. Broonzy recorded his version in 1934.
The remake comes courtesy of a British band called Arkitector, which is the musical project of Richard Tosic, an actual architect. You can listen to his version of Broonzy’s tune, Mississippi-River, at the link below, and more of his music on Soundcloud. And thanks to Richard for providing a little more history of the Broonzy tune.
Note: If you have trouble with the Soundcloud player, you can also hear Arkitector’s version here.
