The Mississippi Valley is home to an impressive range of animal life. Birds are perhaps most abundant, but there are plenty of mammals and insects. There are also several zoos in river towns, which makes it easy to snap good pictures of animals that aren’t native to the region (but are so cute!).

stumbled on you while googling the River and iowa. I’m entering my grandfather’s manuscript into my computer about his Mississippi trip in 1953. He made subsequent trips but not rowing as he did in 1953. Matthew Michael Bakula was born in 1881 in Bohemia. My father was his son. If you can share any info with me about his trips, I’d appreciate it so much. I’m in the process of scanning and id’ing all his pics from his many travels.
