Happy birthday, St. Louis! (Well, maybe it was yesterday, or perhaps it’s next month; there’s a bit of confusion about the actual date that Pierre Laclede set about building his new city.)
At the Song of the Day Department, we’ve been celebrating all month by featuring St. Louis musicians, most of whom are probably new to you. A couple of weeks ago, we reached back to 1934 for a classic blues tune, Riverside Blues, from Alice Moore. Last week we introduced you to contemporary indie/folk rock with Mississippi River from Salisbury.
This week, we look ahead, with the rich, deep, frantic, eclectic, electric sound from Bug Chaser, a band that has created a sound that is lighting a musical path into the next decade; at least I think that’s what I read, somewhere. Anyway, I like them, a lot, especially live. Sounds of the Mounds isn’t exactly about the Mississippi River, but it gives the river a nice mention. Enjoy!
