Picture of the Day: High Water at Hannibal

Here's a set of two pictures from Lover's Leap at Hannibal, Missouri: one from November of 2012 when the Mississippi was rather low and another from late April 2013, with a moderately high flood level. See more pictures here.

Picture of the Day: Muscatine’s Riverbend

The Mississippi River flows from east to west through Muscatine, Iowa before taking a sharp turn to the south on the west end of town. This panorama was taken at the spot where the river makes the turn (photo taken March 2013). See more photos here. The big bend at Muscatine, Iowa

Picture of the Day: Battle Bluff

Just south of De Soto (Wisconsin) Battle Bluff rises high above the river; you'll know it by the distinctive south-facing slope that is nearly all goat prairie. From the top, the views are expansive. The picture below was taken in April, 2010, with the river a little high and just before the trees leaf out.

Picture of the Day: Washed Up

While I was out exploring Calhoun County (Illinois) last week, I came across this old barge that had been washed on shore long enough to accumulate a heck of a lot of mud in its cargo hold. See more Photos of the Day here. Mississippi River around river mile 225 (Calhoun County, Illinois); March, 2012
