The Oliver Kelly Farm near Elk River (Minnesota) recreates the feel of an 1860s farm, complete with actors in period costume who will show you how to hitch a plow to an ox or how to bake with a cast iron stove. Go there this weekend and you can try your hand at making prairie sugar, which you may know better as molasses or sorghum molasses. You can relax afterwards with a hike along the Mississippi River on one of the trails.
