Dylan’s home; Hibbing, Minnesota
Yes, I know that Hibbing (Minnesota) is not on the Mississippi River. For today’s destination, though, we’re going to take a short side trip (about 45 minutes from Grand Rapids, which IS on the Mississippi), so you can get to one of my favorite events: the singer/songwriter competition at Zimmy’s Bar and Grill for Dylan Days. Hibbing is Dylan’s hometown; once a year they throw a big festival in his honor. I had a great time last year at the Friday night competition, which rates high for spirit, energy, and a chance to hang out with folks from northern Minnesota.
NOTE (May 2015): Hibbing’s Dylan Days disbanded at the end of 2014, but many of the traditions will be carried on in Duluth’s Dylan celebration. Check out their website for details. Zimmy’s is also closed now.
