What do you do with a solid old schoolhouse that has been taken out of service? Gary and Jennifer Peterson decided that it was a great idea to turn one into the Maiden Rock Inn, a bed and breakfast on the eastern shore of Lake Pepin. I imagine the whole project took a little more time than they originally anticipated, but the result is impressive. Each guest room is elegant and comfortable with amenities such as individual climate control and a bathroom to die for. There are many common areas in which guests can spread out, including a rooftop patio with great views of the village of Maiden Rock and Lake Pepin. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that the inn has a well-stocked wine cellar with a nice range of choices, so there, I’m not remiss.
