Picture of the Day: Clarksville flood wall

The river may be slowly going down, but the smart folks in Clarksville (Missouri) are waiting a little while longer before dismantling the temporary flood wall that protected downtown from recent high water.  In spite of the street closures around the flood wall, businesses are open and sure would be grateful if you'd pay them

Picture of the Day: Oversized American Gothic

This fun sculpture, God Bless America by J. Seward Johnson, found a temporary home outside the Dubuque (Iowa) Museum of Art. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm willing to bet it has quickly become one of the most-photographed sites in the area.

Picture of the Day: Confluence High Water

Heavy rains in late March and April have awoken the Mississippi River from its winter slumber. Here are two pictures from about the same spot at Jones Confluence State Park that show the water level now (April 19, 2013) and when it was at a more typical level (Sept 2006). See more pictures here.
