Mississippi Palisades State Park, just north of Savanna (Illinois) is one in a string of spectacular parks along the Upper Mississippi River. The park has a few Indian burial mounds, several overlooks with dramatic views of the Mississippi River, and an extensive trail network. Besides the standard park amenities, Mississippi Palisades allows rappelling in a few places and has a few isolated campsites that require a hike of about 1 1/2 miles to reach.
